Our Journey
Our journey began in 1996 as a humble boiled maize (“Bada Irigu”) stall in Galewela, located along the A9 road. Over time, we earned a strong reputation among a growing base of loyal customers, which led us to expand by opening a small fruit and vegetable stall alongside.
In 2002, we took a significant step forward by establishing a small hotel, which quickly became a popular stop for daily commuters and local travelers. Following the end of Sri Lanka’s 30-year civil war in 2009, travel to the Northern region increased, bringing more visitors along the A9 route. Our business naturally evolved into a favored resting point for travelers.
A key driving force behind our success was our mother, Mrs. S. A. M. A. W. Senanayake, whose dedication to crafting traditional sweets such as dodol and musket made our products truly memorable. These specialties encouraged customers to return and share our sweets with their loved ones. With the reopening of the A9 road and growing demand, our business reached a turning point, expanding rapidly into a recognized name: “Galewela Pubudu Sweets,” later established as “Galewela Pubudu Sweets (Pvt) Ltd.”
Today, we operate two production facilities in Galewela and four sales outlets located in Galewela, Anuradhapura, Thambuththegama, and Naula. Our production lines offer over 35 varieties of products, supported by a dedicated team of more than 160 employees from across the country.
Despite the challenges posed by the 2019 Easter attacks and the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, we remained committed to supporting our workforce. We continued operations by adapting to local market distribution while strictly adhering to health and safety guidelines under the supervision of Public Health Inspectors and Medical Officers.
Looking ahead, our vision is to elevate our products to the highest quality standards and establish “Pubudu Sweets” as a leading and trusted brand both locally and internationally. We also aim to contribute to the Sri Lankan economy by creating at least 1,500 new employment opportunities through the expansion of our production facilities and sales outlets.
